UP TO A NEW CHALLENGING QUESTION?

Some of you have given the right answer to last week's question, but answers given in the corridor between classes don't count, so please write it down on the blog!
Here's a new question for this week and, since the last one is still unanswered, the new one is, once again, about family:

3. A woman gives a beggar 20 cents. The woman is the beggar's sister but the beggar is not the woman's brother. How is this?

Thanks beforehand for taking part and don't forget to write your answer in your best English; remember any good text is worth an extra good mark.

Good luck or better to say, good lateral thinking!

THIS WEEK'S PUZZLE IS AS FOLLOWS:

2. Two men are standing in a room looking at a picture of a man on the wall. One man says to the other, while pointing at the picture, 'Brothers and sisters have I none but that man's father is my father's son'. Who is the person in the picture?
As for the solution to last week's question, of course the first thing you light is obviously... THE MATCH! How could you light the other things wthout first lighting the match? Some of you guessed it right on Friday; let's see if this week any of you can write the correct answer in time. Remember it has to be written on the blog by Friday! And, by the way, thank you all for your participation. See you in class!

LATERAL THINKING PUZZLES CHALLENGE

How well do you focus? Test your brain and torment your friends. Try to answer the puzzle of the week as quickly as you can.
Every week you'll find a criptic conundrum designed to trip you up and catch you out, but any genius able to think laterally should be able to crack it. If you think you're up to it and want to take up the challenge, go ahead! Give your answer by Friday! Your teacher will tell you if you are right.
Here's the question for this week (starting on Monday, 9th November 2009):
1. If you had only one match, and entered a room in which there was a kerosene lamp, a gas stove and a wood fire, which would you light first?
